K's lamp

"Either way we create what we believe". Our mind has the strength to shape our reality. This simple statement that most people will admit as being true, is the fundamental proof of our unlimited strength and our unconditional liberty. Since the choice between positive or negative thoughts is ours, we can choose our own reality.  We are the masters of our own lives. We can choose to be ill, poor, mediocre or we can rise above all the seeming obstacles and shine!

For the person who taught me to pull my own strings...the least I can do...a lighting frame with an illustration based on his own saying.

K, this is my own way to say thank you for everything that you've done for me!

The Om lamp

This is a gift for my passionate yoga instructor Katerina, who recently opened her own studio, a small zen paradise devoted to body and mind focus! It is (something like) a mandala drawn around the "Om" symbol (in Devanagari), depicting the birth and resurrection of the soul.
Katerina, I wish you the best of luck!

The Tree Fairy

Another glowing frame is hanging on my workshop's wall, ready to be given to a young lady! This time I draw a smiling Tree Fairy siting in a tree hole! I covered the inner frame with a bright pink- fuchsia polka-dot fabric and this is the end result:

The Sweet Wormth of Words

My friend Christina creates beautiful candles, using a technique that takes advantage of the design of napkins. Most of her candles are hollow inside in order to be reusable. To light them up you put a tea light on their central part and in this way you have the same effect with a common candle.

Christina also creates custom-made candles. When she does she usually asks me to draw on napkins whatever her customer wants.

Her most successful custom-made candles are those with the Greek poems.  I'm posting here two of my favorite "poetic" candles. I wanted to quote the poems that are presented on these candles so as to show the relationship with their illustration. Unfortunately for each candle I was able to find an official translation only for one of the poems depicted.

1st candle

BREAD
"An enormous loaf, a huge roll of freshly baked
bread had fallen from the sky into the street
a child with short green trousers and a knife
was cutting it and handing pieces to the crowd
but a small girl, a small white angel she,
with a knife was carving and sharing out
pieces of pure s k y
and everyone now ran to her, few turned to the bread,
everyone ran to the small angel who was handing out the s k y
Let us not hide it: we hunger for the sky!"

IF YOU WANT TO BE CALLED A MAN (EXTRACT)
If you want to be called a man
you'll never stop even for a single moment
to fight for peace and justice.
You get out on the street, you scream,
your lips will get bloody from yelling,
your face will get bloody from bullets,
but not a step behind.

Sail away to the stars

This is another beautiful lamp that I made for a friend. Unfortunately I don't have a photo with the light on! Stars are cut and drawn on semi-transparent paper all around the surface of the lampshade. When you turn the light on the walls turn into a starlit night!

"Once upon a time" lamp

My "Once upon a time" lamp glows softly, like a candlelight, painting the walls with the shadows of our most beloved fairytale heroes...

Magic Theatre Lamp

handmade_lighting, wall_lamp, Mary's_Merryland

The idea for this lamp comes from the Greek traditional shadow play theatre. It used to be quite popular when we were kids and it still brings sweet memories to mind.
